Having just stumbled across this last night (literally, via StumbleUpon…) I just have to say - wow.
Having only experimented briefly with this software on both my laptop and iPad, the ability to create 3D models of people, things, even buildings just through taking a series of photos astounds me.
Couple this with the editing capabilities of 123DSculpt and 123DMake, you can scan in (through taking a series of photos on a digital camera or with an iPhone or iPad), edit and print (yes, I said PRINT!) anything within a very short space of time.
Although this is relatively new in the software world, the fact that it’s open-source and so easy to use (even a simpleton like me managed to figure it out), this method of recording data could have massive implications in design, architecture, conservation…
Enjoy.
